WAND, 13" Evolution Carpet Cleaning Wand

The Evolution carpet wand was designed by understanding the theory of air flow. Air flows from a region of high pressure to one of low pressure. When air flows at higher velocities, especially through an airway with irregular walls, flow is generally disorganized, even chaotic, and tends to form eddies. This is called turbulent flow.( Diagram 1)

This is the type of air flow found in most carpet wand designs today. A relatively large driving pressure is required to sustain turbulent flow. To double the flow rate when you have turbulent flow, you must quadruple the driving pressure.

When flow is low velocity and through narrow tubes, it tends to be more orderly and streamlined and to flow in a straight line. This type of flow is called laminar flow ( Diagram 2).
Unlike turbulent flow, to double the flow rate with laminar flow, one need only double the driving pressure.
