Methodology:
- Understand what you are dealing with: Any cleaning process should always start with a clear understanding of the item to be cleaned, check the care guide provided by the manufacturer to ensure polish is safe for your specific flooring.
- Pre-test: Always pre-test any polish or cleaning product in an inconspicuous area before applying them to the entire floor.
- Decide if Polish is required: Some LVP or LVT floors are designed to be low-maintenance and may not require polish, so utilising a neutral pH detergent is recommended.
- Pre-Vacuum: Thorough vacuuming and/or use of a dust mop before applying polish is an absolute necessity!
- Use of a Neutral pH Cleaner: Clean the floor thoroughly with a neutral pH floor cleaner before applying suitable polish. Avoid oversaturating the floor as too much water can seep into seams and cause damage. Ensure you allow the floor to air dry completely before applying polish – airmovers may assist in this process.
- Choose the Right Polish: Use a product specifically labeled for LVP or LVT or Vinyl floors. Avoid wax-based products, as they can create buildup or leave a sticky residue.
LVP/LVT safe floor polish is normally an acrylic-based floor finish suitable for vinyl. Check out the range of Vinyl specific products HERE. - Drying & Ventilation: Allow the polish to dry completely before walking on it or applying further coats. Drying times can vary depending on humidity and ventilation. Apply additional coats if a higher gloss or extra protection is desired, letting each coat dry completely before proceeding.
Maintenance
Ongoing maintenance is best performed utilising a neutral cleaner as best practice. This will enhance the shine of the flooring. Reapply polish as necessary, typically every 6 – 12 months depending on traffic situation.
