Considerations When Choosing the Correct Carpet Prespray…
Choosing the correct carpet Prespray will depend on the type of fibre, level and type of soiling, and also any specific concerns such as allergies or chemical sensitivities of your customer:
Carpet Fibre Type…
- Synthetic Carpets (e.g., nylon, polyester, olefin): These types of fibres can typically handle stronger, more alkaline cleaners.
- Natural Fibres (e.g., wool, silk): Choose a prespray with a neutral pH to avoid damaging the fibers. Look for wool-safe certification such as Performance Plus.
Soiling Level…
- Light to Moderate Soil: For general cleaning, a mild alkaline prespray (pH 8-9) is often sufficient.
- Heavy Soil or Grease: Choose a prespray with a higher pH (10-12), which will have stronger degreasing power and break down embedded dirt.
- High Traffic Areas: Opt for a traffic lane cleaner, which is designed to target ground-in dirt in frequently used areas.
Soiling Type…
- Oily Soils (kitchens, restaurants): A solvent-based or high-alkaline prespray is best for breaking down grease and oils.
- Protein-Based Soils (food, blood, etc.): Use an enzyme-based prespray, which is effective in breaking down organic materials.
- Pet Stains or Odor Issues: Look for enzyme-based or bio-enzymatic presprays that are effective at breaking down pet urine, feces, and other organic matter.
Environment and Sensitivity…
- Eco-Friendly and Non-Toxic: If environmental impact or health sensitivities are a concern, look for green-certified products that are non-toxic, biodegradable, and free of harsh chemicals.
- Fragrance-Free or Hypoallergenic: Good for households with allergies or chemical sensitivities.
Stain Resistant Carpet Treatments…
- Carpets with Stain-Resistant Treatments: Ensure the prespray is safe for carpet for nylon carpet that has a stain resistant treatment. High-alkaline products can strip protective treatments from these carpets.
Important: Never over wet carpet with prespray and remember to apply prespray most to the areas of carpet that are heavily soiled, there is no point in wasting chemical where there is little soiling and excessive prespray is not required.
